How do you spend your Black Friday?

Thanksgiving was great.  As I sit here at two am typing this up, I think back on the day.  There was great food (if I do say so myself, LOL), great friends, and a generally good time.  After we all ate we switched to some  important talk.

Then suddenly one of them (Jennifer) asked where the ads for Black Friday were.  I told her to feel free to check our  newspaper.  Next thing you know, I was sprawled out on the couch (too much triptophan) and she was sprawled out on the living room floor with all the newspaper ads around her.  She asked for stickies (post it notes) to flag in the newspaper those items she was going to purchase.  She had planned on two stores already, that she was going to go to on Black Friday.

Shirley, John and my other friend, decided on another store she would go to.

Was I hearing correctly?

Shirley had just gotten done saying that last year, her son went to the local Best Buy (less than a mile from John and my home) at 4 am. on Black Friday.  When he got there at 4 am, there was already a line that was four blocks long.  But he got in the line anyway.  It was worth it to him, he says, because he was in the beginning of the line, and he ended up getting what he wanted for a good price.  But he did say however the wait was very long and he got very cold waiting in line.  But, he says, it was still worth it.  He could handle the four blocks and waiting hours and hours in the cold for the store to open.

*Shuddering, and shaking my head here.*

I feel sorry for my friends.  I am going to be home under the blankets tomorrow, watching TV, sipping tea and eating leftovers, and doing nothing but spending time with John, as is fitting for the day after Thanksgiving!

I'm just wondering, how do you spend your Black Friday?

  6. I'm snug as a bug under my blankets watching it snow while my daughter is out fighting people for sales. She seems to think she needs the deals. I use to shop a long time ago when my kids were little, but now the things they want you can't find on sale like that. I'll just do my shopping during regular time. Can't stand crowds there as so many rude people out there it's unreal. Sounds like you got a great place to be.
    Take care, Chrissie

  7. Some of my children and I usually go to a Craft Show and a candle factory today, but this year we are visiting a little town near by for and OLD FASHIONED day of shopping.  It has lots of little shops with gifts and such.  They are supposed to have a horse drawn trolley there too.  I'll be taking pictures to share . 8. I'm sure not spending it at the stores.  I hate the commercialism that takes over this time of year.  It gets worse each year, and everybody seems to eat it up, and go out and act a fool in the stores.  I am the biggest scrooge when it comes to Christmas and it is the that yearly focus on presents that has made me that way.  So, I spend black friday as I would any other day.

  11. Krissy~So gladad you both had a great day yesterday. I avoid the insanity of the day after TG sales. When I worked in retail I dreaded this day more than any other! I don't know who coined the day as "Black Friday"--geez, what does that describe exactly??? If I do any shopping at all today it will be at the computer and I might go to a drug store. Your plans for the day sound good; I will be doing some of the same. Always, Deb ;-)

  13. Can't believe it, but for the first time in my life, I went out shopping this morning at 7:30 a.m. , just couldn't resist that Lowe's was having a Rival crock pot on sale for $9.99 and I needed another small one as mine needed replaced.  Got my crock pot, didn't have to wait at all, breezed in and out of Lowe's, then hit a few more stores and was home by 9:00 a.m. Couldn't believe it, but then I wasn't going to the malls, so that helped.  Now it's kick back, enjoy leftovers from Thankgiving probably for the next week or so, lol and enjoy my hot cup of tea and a good book.  Hope you and John have a great day.  Arlene (AJ)

  18. LOL...I spend my Black Friday at work because the day after Thanksgiving is not a federal holiday.  Even if I were home, I would not be shopping although I have to admit my girls were looking through the ads at my brother's house yesterday, and Best Buy had some enormous bargains.  I think they were opening at 5 am.  Several people I work with took a vacation day to go shopping.  I'm with you.  A nice warm cozy bed sounds better to me.  HUGS Chris

  19. Working in the middle of the whole mess and laughing at these crazy people... we had people in line for best buy in our town since Wednesday, spending their Thanksgiving day outside of best buy, way crazy...
    Have a great weekend!

  21. I could not do Black Friday either.  I tried it two years ago and since that time I have decided that I would not do it again.  Even if I had a chance to save hundred of dollars.  The frustration and the lines were not going to work for me.  Never.  Ever again will I stand in those lines or leave out the house that early to get in the stores.  I'm glad you had a great day with your family though.  Tish G.

  22. Krissy, I already told you. I was waiting in the car, beeping for you to come out at 3:45 AM to GO Black Friday Shopping!  JUST KIDDING.  I use to do it and loved it.  No way now, the money I'd save isn't worth it and I'd just buy more then anyway.

I'm worried about your John, and you too.  Keep us posted.
    Love,
    Merry
