my computer's coming Thursday

I'm so excited!  Tomorrow (Thursday) or maybe Friday I'm getting my new computer.  It's a flat screen.  A Hewlitt Packard.  I haven't had an HP in awhile, but I am sure I will get used to it quickly...

I'll be able to put my new photo software on it.  I'm really excited about that!  I haven't put the software on this computer, as this computer  is constantly encountering problems.  So I figured I would wait until I got my next computer.  Now I will be able to add the photo software to my new HP!  Wow, am I excited!

I will now be able to add photos to my entries, which is something I haven't been able to do in a long while.  And I'll also be able to participate in the JLand Photo Shoot.  I've found it kind of ironic that I have been running the  Photo Shoot, but not been able to participate by adding a photo submission myself.  I want to play too!  I really love taking photos, and enjoy looking at them.

I still have shots of the fireworks I took from the 4th of July, LOL.  They are still on the memory card of my digital camera, and have been there because I didn't have my new computer and software yet to handle downloading the photos.  I am curious to see how the pictures turned out, and will check them out on my new computer.

I have never taken fireworks before.  I may post one or two if they turn out  alright.  Would you all like to see  pictures of the fireworks I took, even though it's August?  I'm game if you're game!

Let's see, what's new besides getting a new computer?  John and I are finally getting our car back from the garage after two weeks.

We were on a road trip to Hershey Med Center Friday before last (don't panic, just a check up for John!) when the car started to overheat.  Majorly.  To make a long story short, we went to a strange garage, as it was the closest.  Note to self:  Don't go to strange garages.  They may just keep your car for quite some time and find charges to add to the bill.  Legitimate charges?  Not sure.  Hmmmmmmmm.

So I'm getting to bed.  My brother-in-law Tony is coming tomorrow with the computer, and I am not sure how early he will get here.  I need to get up early to call him.  And to straighten up the house.  And cut up and freeze a bunch of peaches...

I hope everyone is doing well.  I am not ignoring Jland's 5th Anniversary.  I just didn't get a chance to write an entry yet.  I will try to do that on Friday or Saturday...

Love you all, Krissy :)

  2. Krissy I don't even use the software that came with my camera, never have done that with any camera. I just plug the camera cord into a USB port and the computer software does the rest. I make folders and send each group of photos to the folders I want it to go to. I now also use one of those things you plugs into your computer that you put your memory card into and it does the same thing. Hubby got it off ebay. Enjoy your new computer. Helen

I would love to see your fireworks shots, it's one of the most difficult scene to capture! first and foremost need a tripod and I hate to lug it around with me, unless of course if hubby is around. He's my official tripod carrier!! lol

  5. Note to Helen:  I do the same thing.  I plug in the camera and the computer takes over.  This occurs as a result of the software that loaded itself onto the computer the first time I plugged the camera into the computer with my USB port.

What I am trying to say is I chose not to even plug this camera into the computer with a USB Port or memory card, until I got my Hewlett Packard.  I just didn't want to do anything on this computer to overload it and make it crash before it's time.  I feared this happening, as I already have two systems going on already on my computer - JASC and Kodak.  (As a matter of fact I also have Photosmart through my scanner, but I didn't set that one up, and I have another one I can't remember the name of right now.  That one unfortunately set itself up automatically when I plugged in the USB port, from camera to computer, which is why I am choosing not to plug my current camera into this old computer.  I don't want to add another software system.  I am waiting to add the new system to my HP, and not have all the other ones going on.)

Okay, this comment is getting too long, and won't let me post anymore, so I will continue my comment in the next comment box.

  6. rest of my comment to Helen:

Anyway, as I said, I am doing it the same way as you probably - both JASC and KODAK edit and manage photos (taking them down, storing them into folders, etc).  JASC came with this computer.  KODAK, on the other hand, began, and was first set up, when I inititally entered the first picture into the computer through the USB port, when it asked me what options I wanted.  From then on the computer photo software was programmed to the way I wanted it each time I entered photos thru the memory card in the camera via the USB port.  So no, I wasn't putting in a disk to set up the photo software, I was merely following the directions on the screen.  Even this was adding software to my computer, however, I believe, b/c it was doing a set up of sorts, and leaving an editing program, on my computer!

I am just saying I didn't want to add a new program to this old computer.  I will add this new computer program to my next computer.  Through the USB port when I set up the system, when the computer prompts me to do it.

    Thanks, Helen, Krissy :)

  9. hey, honey, about my camera and the new computer.  What do you suggest?  I amnot sure where my software is.  And even if I found it, it is an old version.  I should go to Kodak online and download the most current version, right?  I could start taking pics, too, yay!!  Maybe I will start doing "Up Close with Val" again.  That was fun!  No awards given out, though.  LOL  LOVE you!! xox

  10. You will LOVE the flat screen; hope it's a widescreen, too. I have two new monitors; the one I'm using is a Dell widescreen 19" and the other one that they sent to replace my older monitor is a strange name (don't remember) and it's a 19", too, but it's square and I do not like it. It would come in handy if something happens to this Dell.    Would love to see the fireworks!!!! Yes, you certainly do need to participate in the photoshoot :)...........alice

  19. A new computer is always a fun thing. I started out years ago with a gateway system but since then, Iv'e changed the hardrive (had one built by a computer geek in the neighborhood with all the software), an hp printer which I love, hp scanner, new 20 in. flat screen monitor. The only thing I've never changed are the speakers ( no need as they work just fine) It makes one wonder what the heck we did without computers years ago? lol Enjoy yours and look forward to seeing those fireworks and anything else you take photos of.

  23. O honey this is great news, a new flatscreen, and HPs are great.  I'm thinking of getting an HP laptop, I think I deserve it lol.  You'll be able to do so much more with this new PC and yes, I'd love to see the fireworks!  Sometimes you catch a great shot.  As for the car, they usually jack it up to pay for overhead like all of us, caught in a crunch.  But some are downright thieves!  So take care.  Cathy

  26. Krissy, cut up peaches, huh?  Yum!  I do love fruit!  I have been eating bing cherries and all the berries all summer long. But especially Bing cherries. I thought I'd get SICK of them, but every night I pit a bunch and put it in my vanilla or cherry yogurt. YUM!  Lite yogurt and Splenda!  So, it's not fattening, but IS healthy!  Are you limited with fruit?. I am wonderfing if it's high in carbs what that would do to your blood sugar.

I knew about your computer, cuz Valerie told me.  You girls have a wonderful generous Daddy!  I am excited and very happy for you both!  Stay in touch, "Peaches." (LOL :) ) Love, Merry
