Monday Morning Question

Monday Morning Question:

How did you find out about AOL Journals and come to start your own?  What made you want to start a journal?

I wanted to ask this question because I wanted to know if people found out about AOL journals by reading something about them on an AOL communities page, or through a friend, or another way.  I am just very curious.  I found out about creating a journal through my sister Valerie.  She started one and suggested I start one too.  I thought she was crazy!  I was too private of a person!  She kept bugging me and bugging me, and one day I just gave it a try.

Why did I do it?  That is a good question.  I don't really know.  Anyhow, I am glad I took the step and started a journal.  I am part of the best community in the world.  J-Land is the best!  I don't know what I would do without you guys!  You all have helped me so much and really been there for me.  I love you so much!

Krissy :)

  1. There was a link on the welcome screen one day, not long after I first had my computer.  I clicked it, being nosy, and the rest is history!!  I thought about it for a couple of days, then mentioned to hubby that I was thinking of starting one.  He thought I was crazy too, still does :o)  I'm so glad I did, because you're right, J-land is THE BEST!!!

  4. good question and I was just thinking about that since mine is about to turn 2yrs old at the end of Aug.

From reading my first entries I see I discovered it as an accidentally.. probably a link on the welcome page or some buzz they created to get ppl into them.  I had read other blogs before aol came along with their own version and didn't find them very inviting or reader appealing.  I took my own to be like a new toy that I wasn't sure what to do with.
I decided to make it like the diary I kept as a child but only this time I had the power to let others read it and have freedom of expression.  When I was a young teen I stopped writing in a journal out of fear because my previous one had been read and passed around by so called friends and that crushed me and took away that trust.

As you can see my journal is like my online diary but it has turned into oh so much more than that.. it is about a community called J~Land and a connection to others, A place where I have grown and an out reach and a soap box too lol.  As I say in the description.. who knows what I will but in there today.

  8. I saw a link somewhere when I first got AOL to start a journal.  I followed the link and set the journal up.  Silly me, I didn't know anyone could or even would read it!  lol...then Chelsea left a message and I asked her how in the world was she able to find it??  LOL  I only wrote a couple of entries then stopped for six months because of illness then picked it back up again and the rest is history!  Yes, I am very, very glad I did.  Wonderful, tremdous community!! xox

  10. I found out about J-Land by way of People Connection on AOL...when I had AOL.  I wanted to start an online journal because I couldn't keep up with my written journal (my hand would cramp up after a paragraph), and I had sooo much to share with the world, I guess.  I just thought it would be nice to share my thoughts and pics with everyone.  I'm glad I did!!! And now I'm glad AOL decided to let AIM members use it too. =D

  11. Not to sound negative but, I went to other photo journals and left my homepage address, and most times would never get a comment back?   Then I started talking to Val, and found that she was very friendly and we continue to communicate as often as possible.  Then I meet Jeannette in the UK, and she was very friendly and interested in what I had to say, as well as my photo/artwork homepage and journal.  So, between the two they talked me into making a journal about my thoughts on everyday life.  It is more than idle chatter to receive encouragement and motivation from the people that I have met in J-Land.  Not only that - and please take this as a joke - "but it is a good reason not to work on cleaning my house"  LOL
    God bless,

  12. I think I opened up AOL and it had an ad for journaling and said something about "Create your online journal now".  So I did.  I had once started an online diary but I didn't like it.  I could never find it on line.  LOL.
Then it just blew me away, b/c I began reading other's journals and they read mine and I got spotlighted one week and got tons of comments and found other people that way.  Then we began to learn how to put pics in the "big way" and then I got into graphics and paint shop pro and even photography....I had to go buy a digi camera to keep up with you guys.  LOL!  And I've loved every bit of it....and look forward to sharing my day with all these on line friends, who I really feel is our "e-family".....cool, a new term!!!

  14. This made me laugh.  I CANNOT REMEMBER. I am such an avid journalist, but I do not know how I got started.  Even going back and reading number one does not help.

  15. I was actually asked if I`d like to start one.  Jeannette told me all about them and I fancied a try.  At first it was private just for me but after a short time I started another and went public, without realising quite what journals would come to mean for so many of us!  :-)

  16. Well, I actually started a "blog" or journal while I was still living in Mexico. I wanted to write down the experiences I was having.  I had a server that allowed this, so knowing about my son John's blogs, I started my own.  Then when I moved here and hooked up with AOL, John encouraged me to start a journal.  Hooray!  It's been a great experience.  I never knew I could make so many friends!  I love having an outlet for my desire to write.  Penny

  17. I was a beta tester for it! So I had a journal before it was out for everyone else! But because I've changed my account so many times I don't have the same journal. But I am still a beta tester for aol! ~ Faye

  19. Excellent question!  The short answer:  I’ve been familiar with them for awhile, read some of the niche, special interest, blogs from time to time for research.  The long answer:  I was plugging in searches about a particular topic and individual AOLjournals/blogs kept coming up.  When my twin sister was re-diagnosed with breast cancer, I figured it was the perfect way to give pertinent information to friends, family, and loved ones about what’s up.  These friends, family, and loved ones have all but left, leaving room for some fabulous (and I mean fabulously awesome!) j-landers.  Ya know, I prefer it that way!

  20. One day, several weeks after I read the Pammie book and learned there was such a thing as blogs in the world, there it was! Somewhere highlighted on an AOL page, the AOL Journals...remember the little house logo? And I clicked on it and here it is, almost 2 years later.

  22. I've had my journal so long now that I barely remember when or why I started.  I mostly started so I can write some memories and share things with my children if they were interested in reading.  It's evolved since then.

  23. When Journals was first released, I saw something about it on the Welcome screen. I went to check it out, said to myself "Self, this looks like a great outlet for your writing..." and promptly forgot about it. Then my friend Kim started one and told me to come check out her first entry. So I finally created one for myself. LOL

  29. Well, I'm answering this on Sunday haha Almost a week late ...
I found them by reading a friends profile and she had the link to hers on it.  I didn't know anything about it, she isn't part of the "J-land" community and doesn't write in her's anymore which is sad.  But at least she lite the way for me.  I decided one night a few weeks after finding her's while I was writing in my paper journal.
    Great question!
