John is back in the hospital

John is back in the hospital.  He has been in for two days.  He had a fever of 102 so they put him in.  From doing cultures, they found he has multiple infections in his sputum, multiple infections in his blood, and an infected PICC line.  He has a horrible cough and has been burning with fever.  They have him on an antibiotic called Vancomycin to get rid of the PICC line infection, and an antibiotic called Cefepime to get rid of the other infections.  They said that if his fever doesn't drop by Monday they would add additional antibiotics.

I am hopeful because this is such a good hospital.  I know they are taking good care of him.  On the other hand, I am slightly discouraged.  I just thought I would be honest.  Last night I was wondering when this was going to end.  We have been here since April 29th, and he has had three hospitalizations during this time.  The rest of the time he has been in Day Hospital.  During this time his counts have been very low (this is bad), and his Creatin level has been very high (bad again).  His kidney function actually got worse yesterday, and he had been off the CMV medication.  Very strange.

Don't get me wrong.  Even after saying all that I am still positive.  I am going to see this through till the end.  There will come a day when John is at home and doing well.  I believe that.  Meanwhile, I just need to keep positive.

So how are each of you doing?  Let me know in the comments section.  I don't want this to be all about me and John.

Krissy :)

  1. I am fine, but I am worried about YOU.  You can't be positive all of the time with all that is going on.  These many little crisis have got to be taking a toll on both of you!  It is a long time to be away from the comfort of your home...I sure hope thigs take a turn back toward healing, very soon...Jae

  2. Hi Krissy and John too...please let him know we are both sending our love to him.  You hang in there...soon I bet he will fight this new infection, then start getting stronger...you have been awesome through it all Krissy.  We are hanging in there.  Hubby had a couple of strokes, not good and he is on the mend now.  I am well, have some new health issues, but nothing for you to even think about.  You have a big priority right there.  Get John better and home.  Between you and his doctors and God...I know he will be fine.  All our love to both of you,
    Joyce

  6. I do hope they can kill off these infections Krissy. It must be hard for you to stay so positive, it's a great help for John to have you like that. I'm doing OK, just getting over an ulcerated leg. Take care. Jeannette xx

  8. Krissy,

You and John have been heavy on my mind and in my prayers. I'm doing well, and my meds are working. My illness is backing off now. I've been unable to function for sixteen months now, but now I am almost healed. Of course my condition is chronic, but may my positive personal experience give you hope, Krissy. God works in mysterious ways, that's for sure.

  10. Oh girl...you gotta read my entry about my granddaughter and the messes she makes when YOU have time.  LOL This IS about you and John and we are sending you our best positive thoughts and prayers.  I'm glad he's getting the vancomycin.  I had a a very very bad staph infection and that's what I got.  It is amazing stuff.  I'm glad you're able to remain positive.  Do you need anything? I know I am in Texas...but if you need something I'll do whatever I can for ya.  Take care of yourself and remember you have all our prayers.
    Love and hugs...Barb

  13. Hi Krissy,
Greetings from a summery Stornoway (Scotland). It's been a tropical 77F this weekend, although with a strong wind today, Sunday.
Please bear in mind that vancomycin adversely affects the kidney function. It's all about balances - what needs to be done, and what happens if you don't. In John's case, it's a very stark choice. Keep hanging on in there, you'll both be fine :-)

  14. If you had known John was going to be this ill, would you have married him.  Of couse you would.  Why? To make is life with his illnesses more bearable.  So that is why you are living with his illness... to make his life bearable for him.
Bless you Krissy, and bear up John... you could have being going through all this WITHOUT Krissy.
Hey, this was supposed to be a cheer up message instead of whatever this is.

My love and prayers to you both !  I'm so sorry that there's been yet another set back.  I know it's not always easy to be positive , but you have a strong faith and that surely helps in times like this.  May our dear Lord bless you both and guide the doctors caring for John.  All is quiet at my house...and I'm a grand'ma' again !
Take good care !  'On Ya' - ma

  24. Dearest Krissy and John~ So sorry to hear John is struggling in the hospital again! I sure wish that were not the case. I think it's admirable that you can stay positive almost all the time under these circumstances. I have been depressed this last week or so. I started to have a normal day with energy and interest in doing things---then by abt. 5 PM I had crashed and burned. I'm prolly more discouraged at times than you are---and I just shake my head---what's wrong with that picture?! God Bless You both~ big Hugs~Deb PS. I miss you being home so much!
