monday morning question

We'll call this question Christmas in July!  What is one of your fondest Christmas memories?

My answer:  I remember our beautiful Christmas tree.  It was an imitation tree.  It was silver, the kind where you had to poke the branches into the long pole.  It was garish and gawdy, yet beautiful.  We poked the branches into the pole, and then we would shape them.  Then we would decorate the tree, put on icycles and lights.  And the star on the top.  But the very BEST part was the color wheel!  It spun around and turned the tree blue, green, red, and purple.  Or some fun colors.  We squeeled with delight.

What's your memory?

  1. Hmmm, fondest Christmas memory.  I guess that would have to be the memory that has been thrust on me by my Mother and Grandfather.  You see, we had gone to the Moravian Love Feast at Home Church.  I was only 5 or so, cute as could be.  Hey, I told you this is their story.  Anyway, they come to the part of the service where they start to play Silent Night on the bells.  All of a sudden there was this cute little boy in the balcony that started screaming (at the top of lungs no less) Jingle Bells.  The church errupted in laughter and Mom and my Grandfather shrunk down in their seats.  I am not responsible for any embellishments as I am telling the story as it has been told to me...every year.  But that is what makes it a fond memory.

  3. Sounds just like my childhood Christmas tree except ours was the traditional fake green one! It had the color wheel and as it turned it also played 3 different traditional Christmas carols. The top was a three tiered bobble and to this day I am still searching for something similiar for the top of my own tree! Thanks for taking me back in time!

  8. Do you still have that tree? You know I saw one sold for $800.00 at an auction.
My fondest Christmas memory is going to midnight masses and eating cakes and drinking chocolate till I puke at our church's basement. Most of my fond memories involve food. LOL.

  12. I LOVED our silver Christmas tree, Krissy!  We had the neatest Christmas ornaments, too!  Those old-fashioned hand-made, glass-blown ornaments were so beautiful!  I loved staring at the tree when I was little.  I don't remember a color wheel??  I don't think I do.  I remember Christmases where we were allowed to pick one thing out of the Sears Catalog (or was it JC Penney's?).  That was fun!  Going through the catalog and picking one thing - wheeee!   I still like to look at catalogs and wish shop!  Neat question! xox

  13. OH MY, We had that tree TOO!!! Funny thing was ~ I always promised myself that I would only have a REAL tree when I got my own home and family. Well, guess what, I have a fake tree again. My son is so allergic that he was hospitalized 2 years in a row during Christmas and once we got a fake tree all was well.
Anyway, I love the silver trees now.
One of my fondest memories was both sad and very cherished. I was in high school and my sister was in the hospital many miles away. My brother and I had to drive to my grandma's by ourselves to celebrate. We sang Christmas songs all the way there. It kept us from crying. Our lives changed forever that year.
    Thanks for the memories.

  14. My parents made all our Christmases special when I was growing up.  I cherish all my memories of Christmases with Eric as well.  Last Christmas we spent at his apartment.  Now that was one to remember as I couldn't walk the whole weekend due to a twisted foot LOL. Barbara

  16. Krissy, I am very late with this comment, so I don't know if you will read it.  I remember the silver Christmas tree and I loved it too.  I remember the color wheel!  I remember the colors as red, blue, green and yellow.  It sat on the floor and when plugged in, turned and shone it's colors on the tree.  I remember mom tied it to the stair railing.  One time our cat Blackie knocked an ornament down the steps and it broke.  Valerie, we ordered from the Sears catalog.  Some years I think we picked out two things.  Krissy, you may remember my blue and white plastic dish set or my snow cone machine.  These memories are fun.  Krissy, thanks for the memories .  . .
