now i'm wearing bifocals!

I've just come back from Happy Valley Opticals with a pair of  bifocals.  I've never worn bifocals before.  I'm 44.  Gee, it's hard being 44!

So I am feeling so strange right now.  I am wondering if it will take me five days or two weeks to adjust to these things.  Right now my head hurts and my neck aches from trying to look out of them!

To those of you who wear bifocals, how long did it take you to adjust to them?

A day?  Two weeks?  Did you ever get used to them?  Just wondering!

Krissy :)

  2. Interesting.  You are feeling strange?  Are you sad?  Grieving?  I am sorry you have to wear them.  I think I would have a headache/sore neck, too.  I wonder if I will have to wear them in my mid 40's as well.  Hmmmm... Did you get to keep your frames?  I hope so!  Love, Val xox  Love you!! xox

  3. Krissy I am 65 and I got mine in my mid 30's just wach very closely where you are walking and stepping a curb always seemed closer than it was so I think I must have looked like a drunk trying to walk for about 3 weeks but the doctor said a week ...what a joke.. Good luck and walk carefully...Hugs ...BJ

  5. I got my first biofcals two years ago Krissi,I think I did quite well not having to wear glasses until that age.I must admit I do not like them at all.I am about to change back to two sets of specs this year again ,at my next check up.One for close work and one for tv etc.I feel if I wear my bifocals they make me trip up.I can never find my footing strange as it seems the ground just dose not appear level LOL!! and I make do without my specs as much as I can.I have never fancied contact lenses and I do not wish to try them.I hope you can get used to them, because if you can it is much easier than having to change to another pair for differant things.Good Luck Take care God Bless Kath astoriasand http://journals.aol.co.uk/astoriasand/MYSIMPLERHYMES

  7. We're all getting old and decrepit. LOL. I've been wearing glasses since I was in my mid 20's. Not bifocals though. The optamologist suggested getting radial keratotomy (laser surgery) and said I can toss my glasses after.
Hugs and prayers to you and you hubby.

  8. I love my bi-focals, Krissy.  My next ones will be no-line bifocals.  As for adjustment, well ~ the first few days I felt a bit out of balance and a little queasy.  I imagine when I go to the no-line ones I will have to readjust.  Knowing you . . . you will adjust rapidly and love them, too.  Blessings and love, Penny  http://journals.aol.com/firestormkids04/FromHeretoThere http://journals.aol.com/firestormkids04/TimeforaLittlePoetry

  9. I wear progressives. No lines! It took me about 10 days to get used to them. I had to adjust where to look out of the lense. Now it's automatic. You'll get used to them...just give it time.

  10. Oh you`re not old Krissy, at 44 you`re still a young girl!  I probably won`t take you long to get used to your new glasses, my dad wore them and had no problems. Take care.

  12. UGH! BIFOCALS!!! lol My eyes have stayed the same since the age of 26. Could not see at a distance. I think the secret was wearing them only when I needed them. NOW all of a sudden I am seeing the street signs better? Sure hope I won't need bifocals.. but have been so lucky until the age of 64!!!  It gets harder at 64 !! lmbo Wishing you a wonderful week with lots of blessings. God Bless, Janie

  15. Krissy, I'm 50; started wearing transitional lenses when I was about 45 I think. They are like bifocals but they don't have those lines you see on bifocals, its like a smooth transition to that area where you need the extra vision (make sense) of the glasses.

I took to them immediately, just took a little bit to get used to them, like the drive home from the optical shop. my spouse, on the other hand, still to this day has trouble with his.

call the doctor too to see if they can give you some advice to make the break in period a bit better without the headaches/neck pain

  16. I really never had any problem with them.  The only slight difference I noticed was climbing on a step ladder or going up and down stairs.  Now I have tri-focals that have a center slot in them for viewing the computer along with the other two.  As I work on one every day it helps take the eye strain off.  Hope you adjust soon and learn to love them as I do.  'On Ya'- ma

  18. I have the bifocals without the lines, and I tried to wear them for a week and each night I had headaches.  Now they just sit on my desk and I wear my regular pair.  It's easier to just take those off when I'm at the computer.

Hope you don't have the problems I seemed to have.  Many people adjust within a few days from what I understand.

  19. I wear reading glasses and when I get up to go to another room, I don't bother to take them off. I just let them slide down my nose so I'm always looking at life from two angles. You kinda get used to it.

  20. Although it's a ways down the road for me, I'm not looking forward to them when I get older.  I'm already near-sighted, and am praying I don't start "playing trombone" as they say.  My mom needs reading glasses...am I doomed?  I better eat carrots.

I'm sure it won't be long before you'll hardly notice them.  ;-)

  21. I haven't gone to the eye doctor, but need to. I know people have told me it's hard to get use to bifocals. You better be careful not to fall. They work on your balance.
    Take care, Chrissie

  22. I went into bifocals before my 40th birthday.  I didn't have any problems because I got the no-line ones.  I now wear tri-focals...that's what happens when you get into your 60's !!  You'll do fine Krissy.  Linda in Washington state

  23. I'm 46 and have been wearing bifocals for 4 yrs.  It took me about 10 days to get used to them.  The dr. told me one you pass 40, most people need bifocals.  Our eyes are getting tired. I hate to think how tired they will be when I'm 80.  LOL
    Love,

  24. I used to wear bifocals,  then about five years ago I changed over to varifocals. I found these quite strange to begin with,  but you soon get used to them. You wont have any problems,

    Good luck.
