monday morning question (arriving on Tuesday)

Everyone's had bad dates.  In honor of Valentine's Day, I have a question to ask you.

What was the worst date you have ever been on?

My answer:  When I was in my twenties there was a "gentleman" who insisted on taking me to a fine restaurant.  I had been anticipating the date for awhile, as I imaginied I would enjoy his company and the food.  I normally didn't go to such a place because I couldn't afford it.

As we were given menus, James looked at me and blurted out, "I hope you don't mind that I am not going to get you anything tonight.  You're going to have to buy it yourself.  I just saw my nephew a few hours ago and spent the money on him instead.

I was flabbergasted.  If this were me, I wouldn't have done such a thing.  I would have at least shared half of the food on my plate with the other person.  But he wouldn't budge and give me anything to eat.  I didn't have much money so I ordered a salad.

About a week later, Jim and I were at a get together of friends.  He walked up to me.  "We should get married," he said calmly.  "You are Catholic, I am Catholic.  You are traditional, and so am I.  We both want to homeschool.  Yes, it would be a good idea, We should get married.  After all, we do have the same values in life."

Since when is denying somebody food a value???

Krissy :)

  1. OMG...that is horrible.
Mine was my very first date. I was 15 and on vacation where we went every year (so I knew this boy for a couple years) we went to a local diner and I was terrified of eating in front of him, so I ordered what I thought would be small and dainty...Stir Fry. He ordered a steak and potatoe. Perfect I thought. They brought my meal out and it was HUGEEEEEEE Piled HIGH. He had filet mignion,,TEENY TINY and a TINY potatoe.  I was starving but hardly ate anything.  When they came out, they put my food in this aluminum foil and folded it all up, then I squished it down. Eric looked at me and said "did you see what it was"? "they shaped it into a duck and you just squished it"
Ughhhh...not a good first date for nerves.

  2. oh my gosh! I loved your date; how could he have the audacity to ask you a week later to marry him??

I was 16, first date with this guy that I met through someone I was babysitting for; she and him worked together; he was 19. We went to their company picnic. He didn't want to do anything (play volleyball, those types of games). Had gotten a fake ID and wanted to drink beer all afternoon. thankfully his sister also came along and she drove us home (she did not drink all afternoon). I didn't date him again, LOL

    great question!

  4. What a dud he was. I think the worse date for me was a blind date. I met him and wouldn't let him pay for my food then he preceded to walk me next door so his daughter in law could meet me at a store where she worked. I wasn't very friendly and a little put out thinking he wanted his DIL's approval. Needless to say I never saw him again and I was thinking good ridance LOL. Helen

  6. Krissy guess I've had very sedate dating prior to marrying....nothing like your date ever happened to me.  Asking you to marry him after the way he treated you was a riot, can't stop laughing.  Have a good day, hope all is going well your way.  Arlene (AJ)

  7. My first date was with my husband when we were teenagers and we went to a chinese restraunt and as I remember (its been alomost 38 years now, lol) he got me a valentine's card and some candy and gave it to me after we were done eating. Guess you could say he did all the right things and caught my heart that day and has kept it all these years. He must be doing something right! lol As for that loser, I would have ordered the most expenisive item on the list and then as soon as I was done, I would have up and left, leaving him with the bill!! lol

  8. What a loser ! I'm surprised you didn't leave immediately. You should have ordered lobster and when the bill came, simply said, "I'm the gentleman's date".

  14. Now that is not a person you would want to marry!

My worst date would have to be one of the dates I had with my X-boyfriend.  Fiance (sp?)  He was physically, verbally and emotionally abusive to me on several different dates.  My parents businesses were going broke, we knew we were going to have to move.  My Mom was drinking, (she later quit), let me think what else went wrong?  I guess that was it.

If it wasn't for my faith in God and the Lutheran Church I belonged to I don't know how I would have gotten through those things.  I also had the love of many good friends (but they didn't know the boyfriend was abusive.  I wouldn't tell that.)

Dave is the total opposite of that guy!  Love, Merry

  18. My worst date was a fellow who took me to a bar, fed me (usually a non-drinker) two vodka/sevens and a vodka martini within a half hour—a wonder I could stand up. He then asked if I was ready to go home. He poured me into his car and suggested we go to his place as it was closer. He stopped for a traffic light; I got out and started to walk home—through the worst part of town. He followed, trying to talk me back into the car—I think because he felt a little responsible for unleashing me on an unsuspecting world. A police car pulled up; one officer talked to me and the other to my erstwhile date. The only id I had on me was my library card. The cops talked me into getting back into my date’s car; they followed us to my apartment. One of the officers walked me to my door and insisted on waiting until I locked it behind me. I never heard from that guy (or the cops) again. Lol

  19. Terrible, just terrible, Krissy.  My worst date had to be Jim.  He asked me out and brought his "friend" along... everywhere we went.  To dinner to bowling, to meet his mom.  Everywhere we went his friend was there.  It was awful.  Then when he dropped me off he said, "My ex-girlfriend called me up last night.  She wants to get back together."  That was that.  I am believing there was no ex-girlfriend.  What a creep.  I was such a nice and pretty girl back then, too.  Oh well, his loss.  Hey sissy, did you get the email I sent you that Vish asked me to be Guest Ed. on Feb. 29?  I wanted you to write me or call me about it.  I have a question for you.  Love, Val xox

  21. Believe it or not, it was the first date with my husband.  I thought he was a bratty fraternity guy, and he thought I was a spoiled princess.  He did ask me out again though that night and we've been together ever since.

  22. Wow, Krissy--you're much nicer than I am.  I think I would have sweetly said, "I'm sorry, I was under the impression that you were a gentleman.  If you had told me beforehand that we were going dutch, I would have brought money for my dinner."  Then I would have gathered my purse and coat and gone home--not bothered to order anything, just maybe would have grabbed something from McD's on the way home if I was hungry enough, lol.

Ridiculous that he thought you would marry him after that!

I think the best advice a friend ever gave me about dating was to always have enough money to get home on your own if needed--or at least have a backup plan.  Sad to say that it's really a necessary precaution these days.

I'm not sure what I would consider "my worst date ever."  Have to think about it, and then I'll link to the post when I write about it.  Great question, though!  :-)

    Blessings,

  23. I was asked out once by a real nice guy who worked where I did.  Everyone told me to go, as he was rich and good looking~ me being shallow back then agreed.  He took me out to a real nice place, we had a good meal- but he hardly talked the whole time.  I had to keep coming up with things to talk about andask him- but he'd give like one or two word replies!  Chalking it up to his being shy, I agreed to see him again- but it was the same thing.  We also attended a work party, but he satin the corner all night.  I just had to tell him we'd always be friends but that's it.  I couldn't take it!  Thanks Krissy for making me think of stuff back then~ I thank God we're both happily married now- to other people!!!!  Carolyn
