What was your favorite dish in your Thanksgiving meal?

What was your favorite dish in your Thanksgiving meal?

Just telling us is fine, but if you'd like to share the ingredients or a recipe, we'd like that too!

My answer: My Secret Cranberry Sauce

Cook the cranberries (a standard bag or two) in sugar water and when done (leaving the heat on low) add a little sweet orange juice, to contrast the tartness of the cranberries. Don't add too much orange juice, as you don't want to take away too much of the tartness!

Sorry my recipes aren't exact in their measurements; I've been taught to cook without a cookbook; I do the "a pinch of this and a pinch of that" method!

After the orange juice, you can zest up the cranberry sauce with some of the zest of the orange rind (grate some into the sauce).

If you'd like the cranberry sauce to be thicker than it is, add a few flakes of corn starch until it reaches the thickness you desire.

If you choose, you can also add a little 7-Up for even more citrus flavor. 7-Up is both tart and sweet, so goes well in this recipe. Remember to start out with only a little, and taste while adding more, because again, you don't want to drown out the tartness of the cranberries.

Finally, to have the cranberry sauce have the glorious flavors of Autumn spice, sprinkle in a little (much less than a tsp. of each) of the following spices:

cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, allspice

Finally, sprinkle in cloves but do so even less sparingly, as cloves are strong!

Taste and make sure your cranberry sauce has the correct amount of spices, juices etc. If more are needed, correct accordingly.

Serve hot or cold.

  3. um the turkey for me with gravy, though I loved the stuffing just as much. I like stove top cooked with the turkey as much as any stuffing Ive had that was from scratch, I like it moist with crispy edges... once I had chestnuts in a cream sauce, my my that was good, and let me say I love that rediculous green bean dish some families make, we didnt but its good, and yams or sweet potatos... yummy! how can I possibly pick one?

happy thanksgiving krissy, love you! say hi to john, Deirdre over here

  5. Great to hear from you again!

My favorite was also homemade cranberry sauce. I just do cranberries sugar and water. I love just the full on cranberriness. I strain mine so that I end up with a with berries and a without berries version.

  6. Oh yum... I do love your crandberry sauce. That was probably my fave from mom's dinner, too. I also love yams. I like them not too sweetened. I don't like all the syrup on it. I do like pecans and some butter and a little brown sugar... mmmmmmmmm... Love ya!! Val xox

  8. Mine has to be my homemade bread stuffing that I make, just love it, so tasty and moist. Always get great compliments on it, plus we made the best creamy pumpkin pie that just melts in your mouth, was my Mother-in-laws recipe and whenver anyone eats that pumpkin pie they always ask for the recipe. If we are going to someones for Thanksgiving, they always ask if I'll bring my pumpkin pies.

Nice to see a message from you dear, hope all is going well your way, you're in my thoughts always. Touch base.

  9. If only there's a picture to show off your Cranberry sauce! ^^ I bet it's yummy. I know, my mom also prefer the pinching (this/that) when it comes to bakery. Eventhough I got the measurement in cups correctly it still does not taste as good as hers. Hmm.. it takes skills I suppose. ^^

My favorite is the pumpkin pie--always have to save room for a small slice! My kids devour the homemade mashed potatoes and gravy and the meat (juicy roast turkey and brown sugar baked ham). YUM!
