We Are Camel People

                     Scalzi's Weekend Assignment #6

My best friend from childhood was Patti.  We did lots of things together.  But one of our favorite things was our club activities.  We invented our own club.  It had four members: me, Patti, my sister Arielle, and Patti's sister Debbie.  The name of the Club was The Camel Club.  The motto and secret saying was: We Are Camel People, Camel People We Are!  Our mascot was, well, you guessed it, a camel.  I had a plastic camel that we used.  We must have thought we were Beduins or something.

The club did have some useful purpose.  We produced a little magazine.  It had lots of articles and lots of fun stuff to do in it.  Everybody was assigned something different to do in it.  I think we all aspired to be writers back then!

Today Patti isn't a writer, but she does work in a used bookstore.  She absolutely loves her job.  She lives on the beach along the east coast.  She buys books to read.  We stay in touch on occasion by email.  Neither of us hold a fascination of camels anymore.

  1. I would Love to own a bookstore! When I get older, I am planning to have my own libary in my house. I got that idea from the book called "The Bad Begining" by "Lemony Snicket." I Love his books! Thanks for leaving a comment, I will be sure to drop by more often. Bye.

  3. Oh I miss those clubs that were created when we needed them then disbanded just as quickly!  And my club bylaws never allowed any younger siblings!

Thanks for popping in to my journal.  I am very much enjoying yours!

  5. Kristina,

This was sweet.  And brought back some memories for me.  Some friends and I once had a club we called "Snow's Dwarfs".   We had a Snow White and the rest of us were dwarfs.  I was (like you said) "You guessed it" DOPEY.  I didn't mind being Dopey.  That meant I could act as silly as I wanted.
We signed all the notes we passed in class with our club names and talked in SNOW"S CODE.
I could tell a dozens stories but it would take too much time and all of your comment space so I won't.
But thanks for the memory jog.  I enjoyed it and your entry.
    Have a great day.

We were going to sell them out a tent so it was easy to pick up and move it when the demand sent us somewhere eles. Aww childhood has we only known......LOL-Mandy

  10. I finally found time to look at some entries in your journal.  I remember this club fondly.  Thanks for sharing the memory, I had forgotten parts of this one and you helped me rehash it.  It is I, your sister Arielle Marie, the one whom recently visited you.  Thanks for your hospitality, I had a restful stay at your nice place.  Long live Queen Buckethead!  (Oh, that's another memory . . .)
    Love, Arielle
