Hi. I noticed a lot of you in J-Land were showing beautiful photos of Irises which are in bloom this time of year. I wanted to show you an iris that my sister Therese bred. Yep, she bred this herself. She cross-pollinated a white iris and a burgandy iris! How it came out YELLOW I don't know! It is her first cross and is five feet tall!
Now she wants a name for the yellow iris. Go ahead and submit a name in the comments section. The submitter of the winning name will get some of her hybrid yellow seeds as well as some blue iris seeds you see in the photograph.
Speaking of the blue irises, no, she did not breed them, but she has just crossbred them with the yellow ones (she uses a Q-Tip!). She is hoping that this new cross will produce irises with a blue top and a yellow bottom. Then we will have to have another contest, lol. They should be striking!
Anyway, back to "Name That Flower". If you have an idea for the yellow iris, please put it in the comments.
Love, Krissy :)
I already told Val that I think a wonderful name would be "Sunburst" because it is so bright, so vibrant and so stunning and just lights up everything around it. You have a clever sister. The pic is absolutely brilliant. What a stunner. Perhaps you could send me a copy of this piccie when you get the time. God bless you my dear friend xxxxx
ReplyDeleteI'll call it "Sunny Delight" or "Iris burst of sunshine"

ReplyDeleteBLONDIE! I LOVE THIS PIC!! Kate
ReplyDeleteP.S. I didn't think one grew Iris from seeds...I thought you had to have the blubs....maybe that is what she meant! Perhaps the white one which was cross pollinated with the burgundy one was ACTUALLY a yellow that had reverted back to it's white roots! (One can GUESS!)

I'm thinking "Tangerine" or "Lemon Surprise"...
ReplyDeleteOnly a couple of my iris' bloomed this year. I think because I finally seperated them and replanted all the bulbs and they are regrouping. So hopefully next Spring they will all be blooming again.
Have a great week!
Linda
what a beautiful iris! the colors are so vibrant! i cant even think of a name that would do this pretty flower justice...but how about buttery lace...because butter can be a pretty yellow color and the iris looks very lacy! LOL hope u are doing well...sorry i havent commented in a while...i hvaent been doing too well myself...have a great day..

ReplyDeleteI'm not good with names! How much to get some seeds without a coming up with a great name? The name should be something very light - rather spirital.
