Monday Morning Question -- What was your worst Christmas shopping experience?

What was your worst Christmas shopping experience?

My answer:

I was shopping one year for Christmas gifts. It was back when I was in my late teens. I have five brothers and sisters, and they were all in their teens also, so buying gifts for everyone was quite a challenge. That year Christmas Eve arrived, and my gifts had been purchased for the whole family save one sister. I couldn't find anything for Grace. She was 17 at the time, if my memory serves me correctly.

That Christmas Eve, my anxiety mounted as I frantically searched through the stores for something really nice, then for anything that could be appropriate for Grace, but to no avail. I searched into the wee hours of the night, then finally went to bed. I awoke very early in the morning before the others and went to the only store that was open that Christmas morning. I don't recall now which store it was. All I remember is that I chose a gift, ran home, wrapped it and quickly placed it under the tree.

My sister's mouth dropped when she opened her tablet of construction paper that Christmas morning. By the way, she was disappointed.

Now it's your turn.

  2. Hi Krissy!! hope you and John are doing good!good question for this Christmas season!! My worst one was when my son was 8 and wanted this remote control car that was really popular. We searched high and low and couldn't find it any place; called all the stores etc. Was really frantic thinking we weren't going to be able to find one when lo and behold, my husband is in a toy store at the mall and finds one just a few days before Christmas. We were thrilled and so was my son!!

    Merry Christmas!

  3. I can't think of any Krissy. I shop all year long, so the hardest thing is not getting to many gifts for my family. However, what they are not getting for their Christmas, they'll get for their birthdays this next year. Wishing you, John & Michael a blessed Christmas, Linda & Gabi in Washington state

  5. LOL...I used to have both sides of the family at my house Christmas day when I was married. Around 25 people. We always had a turkey. I bought a huge one, well over 20 lbs. I couldn't close my roaster lid and wanted a new roaster like my MIL's. I bought several ones that looked huge at the mall only to get home and find the lid still wouldn't close so I put the darned turkey in a bag, took it to the mall, put it in one of the old umbrella strollers, covered it up with a blanket and went through the stores with in trying it out in the roasters to see if it fit. Of course, I'm clumsy and it fell on the floor making a huge clatter. People came running thinking it was a baby. Ugh, I was so embarrassed when they saw it was a turkey. I put it back in the stroller and left. I borrowed my MIL's roaster every year after that. Merry Christmas, Krissy, John and Michael!

  8. Hmmm...the only bad experience is Black Friday. The one year, I got out of work at 5:30am, then went shopping. I live about 15 minutes away from Walmart, which was where we were going. It took us over an hour to get there! When we finally did get there and looked around, there wasn't anything we needed. Needless to say, from then on I stayed home on Black Friday...

    Merry Christmas!

  9. Our worst Christmas shopping experience was back when the Holiday Barbies were so popular they couldn't keep them on the shelves. We found out that Venture would have some, so my husband and I were there an hour before they opened. Within the hour, the entryway was packed with sweet little old ladies who smiled pleasantly and talked about their grandkids. But you wouldn't believe how vicious those same little grandmas were once those doors opened!! They pushed, shoved, and elbowed to try and get to the front of the line. I stepped aside and let my husband rush to the register where they had the dolls--fortunately, he was 7th in line, and they only had 11 available.
He still talks about that experience in awe, lol!
