Monday Morning Question:
What is your favorite museum? What is your favorite exhibit there?
My favorite museum is the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC. I used to go there on field trips all the time as a child. I have two favorite exhibits. The first is the Native American one. I love to learn about other cultures, and find the Indians fascinating. My second favorite exhibit is the geological exhibit. The rooms are filled with beautiful gemstones and minerals. One whole wall is lined with quartz!
Tell us about your favorite!
Definitely a favorite of mine also. When living in Kurashiki Japan there was an art museum that sat along the canal in a marvelous stone structure. When needing someplace to let my mind wander and stretch I'd enter the gallery and "climb into" a painting, exploring the areas of the painting just outside the artist's depiction. Those magical paintings opened up worlds to me through the lens of countless artists. A favorite was of a party of warriors retuning to the castle of their Shogun, their armor reflecting a setting sun. This piece of artwork begged so many questions. From whence had they come from? What was the cause of the most recent battle? What victory celebration would ensue? Who was this Shogun that lived in yonder castle? Was he just and honorable as their code demands? Despite the language barrier, I was able to have many a shared experience with the Japanese visitors through this magnificent artwork. It was a telling lesson in the ability of artwork to bridge culture and language gaps.

Oh, I'm with you on the Smithsonian. I didn't have much time, but I enjoyed the museum that had Archie Bunkers chair in it. I got a kick out of seeing these little things like that and Dorothy's red slippers, and such. Not sure which museum it was. But I enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteKrissy, good question! I guess what comes to mind first are the museums in D.C. that we used to go to. I used to love to see the rocks and gems. They are so fascinating to me. I just loved the Hope Diamond. So beautiful! I really love any museum. I love art museums also. I can stare at paintings for hours and hours and just dream away.

The new Native American Museum in Washington D.C.! It is part of The Smithsonian Institution...Check it out guys! Most every tribe that ever existed is represented here. It has been researched, created and developed by the descendants whose ancestors once called this place "home". Expect to come away with a different perspective on American history...A+ ( aka FishingBear)
