Monday Morning Question:
Describe a "sound" from your childhood. What was it? When did you hear it? What does it bring to mind?
My answer: Crickets. I love the sound of them. Yep. I remember the night I lay awake listening to them on the eve of 4th of July when I was a little child. All six of us kids were sleeping in the playroom (yes, there were six of us kids - I had four sisters and one brother), and it was late in the night, and I lay awake listening to the crickets. It was so much fun and there was so much excitement. The first bit of excitement was that we all got to sleep in one room in a "slumber party" type arrangement (because it was a holiday). The second bit of excitement was that tomorrow we would see the fireworks. Oh, what excitement there was in childhood. Crickets always bring me back to childhood excitement.
Oh, Krissy, I remember the crickets!! I remember when we had the Gillis kids over and there were 13 of us in the downstairs and the doors were open and there were crickets!! Oh, how wonderful! I loved those slumber parties =D!! What a nice memory! Crickets are one of my very favorites because of my childhood and being outdoors late at night or having the windows and doors open at night! Oh, I don't want to steal your answer. Let's see... Music! Carl playing his music and all of us playing music. We had alot of music playing during our childhoods, didn't we? Loved it!! xox

I remember how our voices echoed in the valley at my grandparent's home in West Virginia - it was surrounded by the hills . You could yell out your name and hear it echo back. What a nice memory for today. 'On Ya' - ma

My sound would be Crickets too...out in the country, during the summer months growing up...I spent many a night in the quiet, isolated area of where my Aunt and Uncle lived, deep in the country. Only sounds I heard were that of all the night bugs and crickets...that's my sound and my memory...hugs to you and John...

Mine would be a steam train taking us on holiday to Devon. I loved the hissing, chugging sound it made and the guards whistle! Jeannette xx
ReplyDeleteHere's my answer to your Monday Morning question. And yes...Julie is right about the noises from the Air Base. I live 1 1/2 miles from the end of their runway, so when those big birds go over my house, they are about 200 feet off the ground.

I remember the first time I ever heard crickets. I cried because the sound hurt my ears. Later on I found out they were locus also. The first time I heard them I was in 4th grade and had just gotten a hearing aid.
ReplyDeletemine is an insect that my daddy called a dry fly. It made a loud droning sound, starting out loud and then quieter and then it would start all over again. My daddy taught me that if I touched the tree it would stop. Works every time.
ReplyDeleteHere's mine. Glad you're taking part again in hosting your MMQ. You're sister did a good job while you were busy.
ReplyDeleteTake care, Chrissie
