i have a pinched nerve in my neck

I haven't been around for a couple of days because I haven't felt well.  I have had severe pain radiating down my left arm.  It was so bad a couple of nights ago that I went to the Emergency Room.  After 7 hours of tests I was assured by the doctor at the hospital that I wasn't having a heart attack.  Than I was told not to use my arm for several days, and was sent home.

I went to the neurologist today (it was a previously scheduled appointment for my narcolepsy) and the doctor said I had a pinched nerve in my neck and it was causing the problem in my arm.  He said he thought I had problems with the disks in my and neck and back.  He gave me six days worth of Prednisone to take away the inflammation in the arm, in hopes that if the swelling went down, the disk or disks would go back into place.  If they do not, I will have to have an MRI and other tests in two weeks.  There is a possibility that I have slipped disks or maybe even something called spinal stenosis.  I won't bore you all with what spinal stenosis is right now.  I'll wait to see what Dr. Roy says I have, and go from there.

Ugh, another illness, LOL.  I am going to try not to panic, and hope that this is only temporary; that the illness and the symptoms will be gone after the six days.  I don't want neck and back problems.  I used to have them pretty severely.

Please pray.

Love you all, Krissy :)

  1. Hiya Krissy!!  Hopefully the prednisone does the job and the inflammation goes down.  Right now you are in the pattern of hurry up pain go away....but you have to wait.  Such is life.  I hope you feel better and get some answers as to what's going on soon.

  2. One thing I do when my neck is messed up is take a towel, roll it up, put it on your bed and lay down with it under your neck and relax, relax, relax.  Sometimes I sleep on it all night. Hope it's feeling better soon....Linda in Washington state

  6. Sorry to hear about this Krissy.  I had an operation on my neck many years ago, the joints have became arthritic.  When it flares up the tissues around the joints swell and the same thing happens to me so I know what you are going through.  I will send healing prayers.

  14. I had a pinched nerve in my right leg, it took about a year of slow exercises and meds to fix it.  I get cramps now and then but as long as I drink more water it goes away.

  15. Hope it's just a temporary thing, Krissy. Must be very uncomfortable. Try to minimise computer use, if that's what it takes. Keep us posted.

  23. I once had an acute frozen shoulder and needed a steroid injection in it.  I had to leave off the computer and rest it.  I know what pain in that region is like.
Please try and rest it and look after yourself.
I will mention you in my prayers tonight.
    God bless

  24. Krissy, I have spiinal stenosis (sp?).  I also have had 2 disks rupture & had to have surgery, & then I actually "broke my neck" tripping backwards while running i(backwards) in the back yard.  DUMB.  I had severe pains shooting up and down both arms and my neck.  All these MRI's, you know what that's like.  I hope you don't have to have surgery.  Dave had a pinched nerve a year or so ago in his neck, the neurosurgeon held off doing surgery, sent him to the orho to see if he had a tear in his rotator cuff.  He did.  So, they treated him with pain meds & Other meds & he went to physical therapy.  It pretty much did go away.  He never had to have surgery.  So, hope you are lucky like that Krissy!  I have also had back surgeries.  I had a laminectomy and I had surgery on another lumbar disk, then I had surgery on the nerves in my lower back.  That didn't help me much. But the neck surgery saved me from being paralyzed.  I will be praying for you, dear Krissy. Take care.
    Love,
    Merry

  32. Prednisone is sort of a wonder drug.  I'm glad it's helping.  I've had to take it for pneumonia and my rotator cuff inflammation.  The only thing I hate about the 7 day pack is it makes me so jittery the first few days.  Hang in there...Love ya, Chris

  33. I feel for ya Krissy.  You and I seem to have the same illnesses/conditions.  I'll be praying.

  35. Please be careful with that awful Prednisone.... you'll find that after a few days of taking it, it will make you terribly irritable, and it just gets worse and worse until you stop taking it.  Remember not to let it control you.... (just like I used to tell my son, when he was little).  Hope you are feeling better.

  36. I just want to bring up a sensitive topic that many American families deal with.  I was diagnosed with ADD in high school and so was my son recently.  My wife and I were decided what to do and whether or not to put our child on medication.  We recently baught a few books on this subject and they were extremely helpful.  We baught them from knowledge-tools.com.  I hope this is helpful to you and your child.
