Coming home last night, I looked up at the beautiful blue Christmas lights stringing the trees, lining the sidewalks in the neighborhood where I live. "Beautiful lights," I shot to John. Then we both busted out laughing. We get so used to the lights being there that we forget that they are still up, even at the end of May. But they are. Usually the last of the Christmas lights in central PA are taken down by June or July, so we'll see if these break a record and make it till August, LOL.
What I was so upset about a month ago was watching the Christmas lights strangle the apple and cherry blossoms. That's right! As these beautiful trees that lined the road blossomed, the blooms were actually being strangled and choked to death by Christmas lights! I wish I had my camera at the time, so you could have seen cherry blossoms entangled in blue glowing lights, trying to stay alive! Actually, I am glad I didn't have my camera...
Krissy :)
Christmas lights are so beautiful to look at but It is a shame If they are destroying the cherry and apple blossom's. Love Pam xx
ReplyDeletemy friends still got their lights up too!
ReplyDeleteWow, Christmas lights still up - amazing. The council take ours down on the 27th December or as close to it as possible. It would not like to have seen the blossom ruined by the lights. xxx

That's amazing ! The powers that be might as well just leave them up all year but change them to clear lights so they don't look too weird. I know a lot of people leave them up on their houses all year but usually cities take them down shortly after the New Year. Linda in Washington
ReplyDeleteNature is way more beautiful than any man made light. :)
ReplyDeletehahahah that is funny, however save the TREES!
ReplyDeletereally we take our stuff down as soon as possible I would crap if my trees were damaged .

they might as well leave them up for next Christmas if it is still up now; that is amazing; are they still lit??
ReplyDeleteI was reading our rules for renting the house and one was that all holiday decorations had to be taken down by January 15th; obviously your neighborhood doesn't have such rules, would be nice if they did especially when winter/Christmas intermingles with the blossoms of spring
betty
As much as I love Christmas, don't think I'd want to see the lights up thru summer, would take away from me the beauty of looking forward to the winter decorating that motivates me to get off my butt and do my holiday shopping, lol.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the memory though as my Mom and Dad always did our holilday tree and lights in blue. Arlene (AJ)
I actually keep the little white lights in my window up all year. Hmmmm, going to be 6 yrs since I moved into the RV Park. They may have been up there since the first Christmas I bought the place ~ 2000. I usually only turn them on at Christmas, but they add a nice ambiance when I'm watching a movie.
ReplyDeletehugs, Bethe
I have seen them up all year around here. Takes the magic away.
ReplyDeleteJulie
I see Christmas lights and sometimes decor up all year round here. I live in the middle of nowhere so this is quite common. I dont decorate much at Christmas so I dont have any outside lights. I do however keep a string of white lights up in my room. I like the soft light they put out.....Christine
ReplyDeleteomg get those lights down...lol
ReplyDeletethen again xmas in july is nice...lol
that's horrible... they need to come down. No excitement at Christmas time if they are up all the time...

I think it's time for those lights to come down. Enjoy the rest of your week.

I hate Christmas. And I hate being reminded of it at other times of the year. Lights should be down by the 10th of January.

Persons responsible for those lights need to be reminded of the superstition that all Christmas/New Year's decorations should be taken down and put away by Epiphany, January 6th, to ensure good luck through the rest of the year. Unfortunately, there are now lights for Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Independence Day, Back to School, Halloween and Thanksgiving. There are also flamingoes, chili peppers, saguaro cacti, geese, seashells and beer bottles for those who want to celebrate without a specific holiday. Bah! Humbug!

Krissy, that's hilarious! They better get with it! Or maybe just leave them up now, you know? They'll be sure to be there to be the first Christmas lights this year. LOL
ReplyDeleteBy the way, did you hear Obama publicly resigned from his church of 20 years. About time wouldn't you say? Actually, it's too late. The one thing I do agree on right now is the women who are sticking up for Hillary and saying they will support McCain before they will support for Obama. This is over those superdelegates. I shouldn't be writing this in your journal, but I don't care who knows that I support John McCain.
I love you guys. Merry
LOL I can't believe it takes them so long to take them down lol
