Frigid Weather

Here it is about five in the morning and I am unable to sleep.  I am suffering from asthma right now.  I imagine it is because it is so cold tonight.  I often have flare-ups when it is cold.  Before I went to bed I got a weather alert in my emailbox saying that it was going to be 30 degrees tonight (that's 30 degrees F, for you all in the UK), and in some valleys around here in would be around 25 degrees.  I live in a valley, so I am not sure if it is 30 degrees or 25, but I am not going outside to check.

I am really not ready for this yet.  Just two days ago it was warm here and I was too hot.  Today was just too cold.  I think it is going to be a long summer.  I am going to have to get out my scarf that goes over my head (it has a hood) and then comes down and covers my mouth and nose.  It still allows me to breathe, but filters out most of the cold air.  It is my "asthma scarf".

So I have been having a lot of fun lately practicing with my camera.  I even took a couple of pictures for the Photo Scavenger Hunt.  I am going to put them in my journal on Saturday.  Boy, were they fun to take!  And they actually came out!  When I first started taking pictures I didn't know if I could do it.  I have trouble centering and all of that stuff.  Stuff like getting the subjects in the photograph, lol!

Here is one picture I took just for the fun of it with my camera the other day.  It is a picture of Michael.  To take it I stood in my front yard and snapped the photo through the screen, to get the picture of my cat who was sitting on the window ledge inside the house!

You are probably asking when I will get some new subject material for my photography right about now!  You will have to wait till Saturday!

Well, my asthma is feeling better now.  I just needed two puffs of my inhaler, one hour for them to work, and one cup of hot tea.  Thank God it worked this time.  Well, I am off to bed.  Time to get my toesies warm and safe from this frigid weather.

  1. Funny isn't it, how one week it can be hot and it is summer, the next, almost in the blink of an eye, the nights are very cold, the mornings are chilly and damp. Autumn/Winter seems to come on very suddenly these days.  Love the picture of your cat and I am glad you are having such fun with the camera. Look forward to more piccies. (((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))) Hope your Asthma is much better now.

  2. I like the sound of your asthma scarf!  For some reason am imagining it straight out of a hot drier, all soft and warm!!  Have taken a couple of pics for the scavenger hunt too, and will put them in my journal on Saturday.  Having trouble thinking of something old though.  Hubby is older than me, maybe I should stick a pic of him in for that one!

  3. I hear you about the scarf. I don't need mine unless it's really bitter cold with a serious wind chill. That icy air sends my lungs into fits! I think this winter will be cold, but I don't think there is going to be much snow. We shall see.

  5. The scarf sounds like a good idea for anyone living in really cold weather.  Glad you have one.

Michael is adorable so you have to kiss him on the head for me.

  6. Oh yeah you did it, look at that magnificant pic of that noble feline, Michael. Sorry to hear about your asthma, mine also gets a mite touchy when the weather changes its mind quickly. I've been colaborating with a friend about ADHD and she tells me of a MD who has studied a relationship between asthma and the body's need for more carbon dioxide (which is also a crucial element in brain functions). I'll try to get more into and make a post. Till then do what my old, cranky doc used to YELL at me while listening to my lungs ... "Breathe in and out, breathe in ... and out ... FOR CRYING OUT LOUD JUST BREATHE IN AND OUT!" What did he think I was doing, taking a nap?

Can't wait to see those pics for the photo scav hunt. Need to get going on mine perhaps. Take care and breathe easy.

  9. Hi my Mr. Michael, Michael row the boat ashore, this is your Aunt Valerie.  Nice to see you in the window!  Are you wondering where your Aunt Valerie went?  She had to move away!  She didn't go far, though.  Did your Mommy explain it to you?!"  Oh, Krissy, he is always in the window.  I remember calling to you from the window and he was either in the window or jumped in to say hello to me.  Tee Hee.  He is my Mr. Michael.  My Tricky Kitty.  So, make sure you take your asthma meds as prescribed.  If you feel something coming on, remember that Dr. R. gave you some emergency medicine.  Remember?  Is that filled?  Ok, so, we are going into a long winter and this can't keep happening.  Did The Sarge fix your heat yet?  Hmmm...He has to or you will call H.**, OK?  Have John stay with you when it is really bad also, ok?  Thanks for taking care of my Krissy, John-John!!  Oh, you shouldn't be up so late (5!), I know you have asthma, but should you be taking some, oh, call me :)..love you, sissy, TBADT, creamy oatmeal with raisins....

  11. My father had asthma, so I read everything I could about it. I learned that espresso coffee (no milk) can ward off an attack. The last 20 years of his life he had no full blown attacks because he drank the espresso if one was beginning. It must be hot and black but you can add sugar. If you don't have an espresso machine, you can buy instant Madalio Doro (spelling may be off) and it works too. Hope this helps you.
    BTW, the picture is great.

  13. Hi Krissy-
It's hard to believe that it's going to be cold again.  You are way more north than me, but I had heard it was going to be 41 tonight, so that makes sense!!!  Cold here for us this time of year.
I am sorry you are having asthma.  Said a prayer just now for you.  Wonder why the cold air does it?

  15. Ohh.. I can't help it!  I'm jealous!  It's been so warm here and it's difficult to reconcile the fact that it's really FALL here.  I'm looking forward to our first real cold front.  It's too bad about your asthma, though.  My mother has it and hers will act up in both hot AND cold weather.. then again in the fall and spring because of hayfever.  Poor thing, she never gets a break!  Thankfully, hers isn't severe.  It's just constant and annoying for her.

If you're looking for more great photo ideas, you could try photofriday.com  They post a new challenge every friday.  Enjoy!  :D
